Pune, 9th September 2021: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has secured 11th position in the university category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

SPPU has not been able to maintain its position in the top 10 universities in the country this year. Earlier, the university has been ranked among the top ten universities.

Mumbai University, on the other hand, has ranked 71st in the rankings. In the overall ranking, Pune University is ranked 20th and Mumbai University is ranked 96th. Higher education institutions offering different disciplines are evaluated on the basis of various criteria.

SPPU Vice Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar said, ”Although we are two places lower than last year, there are two main reasons for this. The closure of the university campus has led to a drop in the number of foreign students, as well as events involving international teachers, which have not been able to take place this year due to Coronavirus disease (COVID) pandemic.”

In this year’s ranking, SPPU scored 58.34. In 2019, Pune University was ranked 10th in the NIRF rankings. Aligarh Muslim University is in 10th position this year. Meanwhile, Pune’s DY Patil University has been ranked second among the top five dental colleges in the country.
