Savitribai Phule’s birthplace elevated as ‘B’ category tourist spot- tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal

Mumbai, 10 June:- The historical Nayagaon village where the first woman teacher of India GyanJyoti Savitribai Phule was born, had been elevated to grade ‘B’ tourist spot. This village is situated in Khandala Taluka of Satara district. The government notification to this effect has been issued recently. This information was given by tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal.

More than five lakh tourists visit this place every year for seeking the information about the social and educational work done by the first woman teacher of India Gyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule. The visitors include various social Institutions, organizations and educational tours. Considering this, the tourist spot has been conferred upon the ‘B’ category tourist spot, from the earlier ‘C’ category. In the year 2004, the government has constructed national memorial of Savitribai Phule that was state protected. Various incidences based on the life ot of Gyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule are also erected on this place in the form of sculptures.

On 3rd of January, that is on the birthday of Savitribai Phule, a government program is organized in this village. Now that it has got the ‘B’ category tourist spot status, the development of this place will gain momentum. Similarly, due to this development, the thoughts and the work of Savitribai Phule can reach to a number of people. Mr Jaykumar Rawal has appealed the people to visit this historical and ideal tourist spot in large number.
