Seco to inaugurate the first Organic Waste Processing Unit in Koreagon Bhima village

Pune April 20, 2017:With an alignment to PM Narendra Modi’s goal of Swach Bharat- Clean India, SECO initiated a campaign to promote SECO SWACH Koregaon Bhima in the Shirur Block of Pune district. This campaign started in January 2015 with an objective to have Swach schools, Swach roads, Swach Public Toilets, decrease in dumping zones, with the key focus on Waste Recycling, at the Koregaon Bhima Village.

Seco undertook activities like spreading awareness about Solid Waste Management to 750 households, repairing of 82 public toilets, conducting environmental campaign in schools with participation of more than 2000 student, sanitation and infrastructure support to ZP School and plantation of more than 2000 trees in different areas and distribution of dust bins for dry and wet waste. Simultaneously, in September 2016, Seco moved ahead to achieve yet another milestone by installing the very first Organic Waste Processing Unit.

Today Seco Management team is proud to inaugurate the Organic Waste Processing Unit in presence of Shri. Saurabh Rao, Collector Pune Dist., Shri. Baburaoji Pacharne, MLA, Shirur Taluka., Smt.Anita Bhalerao, Sarpanch, Koregaon Bhima and Mr. Andreas Fritz, Vice President Asia Pacific, Secotools India P.Ltd.

This Project is conducted under SECO CSR Initiative. SECO in partnership with a local NGO named CHF (Community, Habitat and Finance) India Foundation has been working with Gram Panchayat of Koregaon Bhîma to address the key issues of sanitation and to manage solid waste by community participation. In addition to this, Seco has planned to initiate Water Treatment program with effect from year 2018.

Seco has decided tohand over the project to Gram Panchayat. Thereafter, the Gram Panchayat will sell the ready compost to farmers at cheaper rates and the income generated from the source will be utilized in Village development process.  On successful implementation, Gram Panchayat will take this project to the next level by implementing the same process in other wards of Koregaon Bhima.
