Seven girls rescued from sex racket in Wagholi

Pune: Seven girls including two minors have been rescued from the flesh trade in Wagholi by the Pune city police.

Police have arrested eight persons including the main accused who was running the sex racket from a lodge.

Police officials said that Rajesh Arun Shetty (32), a resident of Wagholi, is the main accused. An FIR against the accused persons has been registered with Lonikand police station.

Crime Branch’s Ganesh Jagtap and police naik Tushar Alhat had received information that prostitution racket was being operated from Sai Sannidhi lodge on the Pune-Ahmadnagar highway in Ubalenagar locality of Wagholi.

After the information was verified by sending a decoy, Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla directed the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) to raid the lodge.

Accordingly a team led by senior police inspector Sanjay Patil, assistant police inspector Chandrakant Jadhav raided the lodge on Thursday evening.

DCP (crime branch) P R Patil, ACP Suresh Bhosale and Arun Walture guided the raiding team.

Police officials said that the two minor girls rescued, are natives of Bangladesh.  Also one of the arrested accused Lakhansingh Somnathsingh (22), a native of Bihar, was wanted in a prostitution case registered with Bund Garden police station earlier this year.

The team which raided the lodge included police personnel Avinash Marathe, Kiran Pawar, Nitin Telange, Nitin Londhe, Rajesh Umbre, Jayshree Jadhav, Damyanti Jagdale, Nanita Yethe, Pragati Naiknawre and Sachin Shinde.
