Shiv Sena Pune City Chief Among 70 Booked For Assaulting BJP Leader Kirit Somaiya

Shivajinagar, 6th February 2022: A case has been registered against 60 to 70 people, including Shiv Sena city chief, in connection with the attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) premises. No arrests have been made in the case so far and police are searching for the accused Shiv Sainiks.

Those named in the FIR are Shiv Sena city president Sanjay More, office bearers Chandan Salunke, Kiran Sali, Suraj Lokhande, Rupesh Pawar, Rajendra Shinde and Sunny Gwate. BJP activist Prashant Latte has lodged a complaint at Shivajinagar police station, Pune city police.

According to police, Somaiya had gone to PMC on Saturday (February 5) to meet the Municipal Commissioner. Somaiya had alleged misconduct at the Jumbo Covid Center and wanted to hand over a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner. At that time, Shiv Sainiks stopped Somaiya at the entrance of PMC main building and shouted slogans. Shiv Sainiks pushed him. In the melee, Somaiya lost his balance and was injured. Shiv Sainiks had gathered to endanger Somaiya’s life. They also had stones in their hands, Latte stated in his complaint.

Police had rescued Somaiya and later he was admitted to Sancheti hospital.

Meanwhile, after Somaiya was injured, BJP activists rushed to the Shivajinagar police station and demanded that a case be registered against the Shiv Sainiks. Shivajinagar police then registered a case in this regard at midnight. Police have formed squads to nab the Shiv Sainiks who were booked in the Somaiya attack case.

Police Inspector (Crime) Vikram Gaud is further investigating the case.
