Single Mother From Slum Struggling To Send Her Son To England For Higher Studies

Pimpri, 4 March 2021: Kalpana Adhav, a contract security guard at Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Hospital for the last 14 years, is facing a financial crisis and is struggling to provide funds for her son’s higher education.

Kalpana is a single mother. Her son, Amit, has an opportunity to pursue his higher studies in advanced studies overseas. He has completed his Bachelors in Physiotherapy (BPT) and has gotten the opportunity to pursue further studies at Leeds Beckett University (LBU), England. However, their financial situation has become the bane of his life.

Kalpana faced immense struggle and hardships to arrange two daily meals and education for her son. She lives with Amit in a tiny room with 120 square feet of area at a slum in Pimpri.

Amit was just one month old when his father left them (Amit and his mother). After that, Kalpana raised Amit as a single mother. She washed dishes for subsistence. “It was a situation where I had bitten off more than I could chew,” she says.

Despite the dire situation, both mother and son did their best to overcome the struggles in their life.

After a few years, Kalpana joined the municipal corporation as a security guard on a contract basis starting with a salary of only Rs 3,000. Currently, she earns Rs 14,000 per month.

Kalpana helped her son in completing his Bachelors in Physiotherapy (BPT) degree. Amit is currently doing an internship at a private hospital and has an opportunity to study Sports and Exercise Medicine from LBU, England. He has secured admission there.

Now, Kalpana is facing a financial crisis and is in the dilemma on how to get the funds to send her son to study abroad for further education.

Even with the trials and struggles, both mother and son have decided to fight against the situation and march ahead in this difficult situation.
