Southern Command Marks 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas with Solemn Tributes and Youth Engagement in Pune
Pune, 26th July 2025: The Southern Command of the Indian Army commemorated the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday with solemn ceremonies and a powerful outreach to the public, especially the youth, honouring the unwavering courage and sacrifice of the soldiers who secured India’s victory during the 1999 Kargil War.
The observance began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Southern Command War Memorial in Pune, where Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, paid tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation. The poignant ceremony was attended by serving officers, soldiers, and veterans from the Pune Military Station, reinforcing the enduring legacy of India’s Kargil heroes.
‘Know Your Army’:
To mark the occasion, the Shivneri Brigade organised a Weapon and Equipment Display at Fergusson College, Pune, under the aegis of Southern Command. Part of the Indian Army’s ‘Know Your Army’ initiative, the exhibition showcased state-of-the-art weaponry, advanced battlefield systems, and indigenously developed military technologies, highlighting the Army’s transformation into a future-ready, tech-enabled force.
The event drew enthusiastic crowds, with Fergusson College students, faculty, and cadets from 2 Maharashtra Battalion NCC engaging closely with Army personnel to understand the tools and tactics of modern warfare. The display was a testament to the Army’s vision for the ‘Decade of Transformation’, focusing on indigenisation, multidomain preparedness, and capability enhancement.
Both events underscored the Indian Army’s dual commitment—to honour the sacrifices of its soldiers and to inspire and educate the next generation. The Southern Command reaffirmed its dedication to preserving India’s sovereignty while embracing innovation and national pride.
