Special Traffic Plan To Ease Congestion, Reduce Accidents On Pune-Solapur Highway

Pune, 3rd April 2025: The Maharashtra Highway Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Save Life Foundation, has developed a special traffic management plan to reduce congestion and accidents on the Pune-Solapur highway. The plan involves installing rumble strips at accident-prone spots and seeking assistance from local municipal bodies to streamline traffic flow. These measures are expected to make travel on the highway safer and smoother.
Covering a distance of approximately 250 kilometers, the Pune-Solapur highway has long suffered from severe congestion and frequent accidents. A detailed study was conducted to identify accident hotspots and traffic bottlenecks, particularly in crowded junctions and market areas along the route.
The study found that congestion is primarily caused by villages, markets, eateries, and roundabouts located along the highway. Major bottlenecks were identified at Loni Kalbhor, Uruli Kanchan, Varvand, Patas, Kurkumbh, Ravangaon, Bhigwan, Dalaj, Tembhurni, Modnimb, and Mohol. To alleviate congestion, encroachments around busy intersections will be removed.
Additionally, rumble strips will be installed at critical locations to control vehicle speed. Improved lighting and directional signboards will be placed at major junctions to enhance safety, with implementation support from local municipal bodies.
Speaking about the initiative, Highway Traffic Police Superintendent Vikrant Deshmukh said, “We have identified accident-prone areas and their underlying causes. Based on our findings, specific measures have been outlined in the plan, and necessary action will be taken accordingly.”
