Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 5, 2020: Disappointed by the delay in Pune metro work in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, MLA Anna Bansode told the MahaMetro managing director Brijesh Dixit to deploy local workers in the metro work. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader recently reviewed the progress work of the on-going metro project in the city. Looking at the present situation, he expressed his displeasure over the completion of metro work being delayed and asked to pace-up.

The Pune metro work has been grappling since several migrant workers returned to their hometown during lockdown imposed due to the nation-wide pandemic spread. Bansode on his site visit observed that metro work before the lockdown was progressing faster than now. “If the work doesn’t speed up, then how will the approved expansion of the metro line from Pimpri-Nigdi be completed?” he questioned. In concern to this, Bansode held a meeting with the managing director and officials of MahaMetro including director Ramnath Subramaniam, planning officer Santosh Patil.

The officials informed that 90 percent of workers who belong to different states have gone back home against the backdrop of COVID-19 induced lockdown. Therefore, due to the shortage of workers, the metro work has been slowed down. Responding to this, Bansode asked the officials to enforce skilled and unskilled local workers in the metro-work. “In case of no workers available, then we will provide manpower,” he said, instructing to try to complete the metro-work within the set deadline. The Maharashtra government has provided funds of Rs 1,500 crore for the expansion of the Pimpri-Nigdi metro line.
