SPPU Campus in Pune to Witness Construction of Large Hostel, Confirms Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi
Pune, 18th August 2023: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is embarking on several ambitious projects as it approaches its diamond jubilee year. Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi shared these plans during an interaction with journalists arranged by the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ).
Among the highlights is the construction of a sizable hostel on the SPPU campus to accommodate 1,000 students each for both boys and girls. The construction is projected to be completed within 18 months. Addressing the ongoing food challenges faced by students, a state-of-the-art steam-based central kitchen is also in the works to provide meals to a substantial number of students simultaneously.
Vice-Chancellor Gosavi unveiled the university’s global collaborations through signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with prestigious international institutions. These partnerships will facilitate post-doctoral fellowships, including an arrangement with Texas University. Additionally, senior forest officers will have the opportunity to pursue postgraduate programs under an agreement with the Union Ministry of Forest.
Furthermore, the institution is set to establish multidisciplinary schools at its sub-centers in Ahmednagar and Nashik, aligning with the educational needs of local students.
Acknowledging recent developments in education, Vice-Chancellor Gosavi confirmed that the new National Education Policy will be implemented across all affiliated colleges of SPPU in the upcoming academic year. The university is also actively advocating for the coveted ‘Institute of Eminence’ status from the Central Government.
The proposed projects within SPPU encompass a diverse range of initiatives, including the creation of a Research Assistance Centre, the establishment of a central system for procurement and tenders, and the formation of a dedicated cell to support and provide equal opportunities for Divyang (specially-abled) students. An independent center will focus on developing syllabi in Marathi, while efforts will be made to restore the Academic Calendar.
In an effort to bolster the scientific landscape, SPPU will organize the Maharashtra Science Congress in collaboration with the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences, mirroring the annual Indian Science Congress Association event.
With these ambitious projects and collaborations, SPPU is poised to celebrate its diamond jubilee year while making significant strides in education and research.
