Pune: May 20th, 2021: After the Bombay High Court criticised the Maharashtra State government’s decision of cancellation of Secondary School Certificate (SSC, class 10th), late on Thursday evening, the state board for secondary and higher secondary education issued the official notification of the cancellation of the examination.

Interestingly, the school education minister Varsha Gaikwad had orally notified the students, teachers and parents about the cancellation of SSC examination through media last month There was no official notification issued. However, on May 19, the state board issued a notification saying that as per the government notification of May 12, 2021, the SSC examination stands cancelled.

The examination was cancelled owing to the rising number of Covid 19 cases in the state. The examination was supposed to be held from April 29, 2021, to May 20, 2021.

Government yet to take the decision on the evaluation Apparently, it took one month for the state to issue an official notification for the cancellation of the examination. It has not said a word regarding the evaluation of the children as the schools were closed for the entire year.

Although, the online classes were going on, in the rural and remote areas, the education was hampered owing to network issues and other technical problems. Thus, the schools are in dark as how to conduct the evaluation.

A school principal from the city on the condition of anonymity said, “the CBSE has declared its policy for the evaluation of standard 10th students after it cancelled the examination. But the Maharashtra State government despite a month yet has not declared any policy or mechanism about the evaluation of the students.

Similarly, it has not taken any decision regarding the conduct of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC, 12th) student.
