‘STANDARD’ PRESENTED TO ARMOURED CORPS CENTRE AND SCHOOL BY THE PRESIDENT

The Hon’ble President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Shri Pranab Mukherjee awarded the prestigious President’s Standards to Armoured Corps Centre and School, during a grand Ceremonial Parade held at Ahmednagar on 15 April 2017. The Standard Presentation Parade was held at ‘War Memorial  Parade Ground’ of Armoured Corps Centre and School,  under overall super vision of the Commandant  Major General Praveen Dixit, SM, VSM**.  The Parade was commanded by Brig Sandeep Jhunja,  Brigadier General Staff.  The astute parade constituted horse, foot and mounted parade in clockwork precision and immaculate coordination, in consonance with the highest traditions of the Army. To commemorate this historic event, the Hon’ble President also released a ‘Special Day Cover’.

This rare honour has been bestowed upon Armoured Corps Centre and School in recognition of the commendable service rendered as a Flagship Mechanised Warfare Institution, providing excellent world class training to Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks of the Indian Army as also all ranks from the friendly foreign countries.  The Cavalry, raised in 1776, have in their existence of 240 years contributed immensely to the character, dynamism and transformation of the Indian Army. The Armoured Corps Centre and School known as Mecca of Black Berets was established in Ahmednagar in 1948. In its glorious past of 240 years, the indomitable and gallant Cavaliers in various theaters of wars have been honoured with two Victoria Crosses, two Paramveer Chakras, 16 Mahaveer Chakras and 52 Vir Chakras.

The presentation of Standard is a martial legacy, centuries old and reminiscent of heroic deeds of bygone battles.  While the practice of carrying the Standard into battle has been left behind, the great tradition of receiving, holding and parading the Standard continues undiminished.  The Standard remains a symbol of the spirit of the Unit and a link with its glorious past. “Red and Gold” are the  colours of  Armoured Corps Centre and School,  wherein Red symbolises Sacrifice, Danger and Courage, while Gold symbolises Achievements and Honour, a true reflection of the chequered part of the Armoured Corps.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri  Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble President of India congratulated Armoured Corps Centre and School for the Award in recognition of its unflinched service provided to the Nation.

Present on the occasion were Gen Bipin Rawat, UYSM, AVSM, YSM,SM, VSM , Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen PM Hariz, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, HQ Southern Command, Lt Gen DR Soni, VSM, GOC-in-C, HQ ARTRAC  and a large no of other General Officers and many other service, retired and civilian dignitaries.
