Kondhwa, 10th July 2025: In a push for improved public infrastructure and cultural recognition, BJP MLC Yogesh Tilekar raised multiple demands during the Maharashtra Legislative Council session, including the urgent need to extend the Pune Metro route from Shivajinagar to Yevlewadi-Kondhwa and expedite work on the Katraj to Hadapsar metro corridor.

This comes on the heels of the Union Cabinet’s approval of Pune Metro extensions from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Kharadi, and the state budget allocation of ₹8,900 crore for metro projects connecting Khadakwasla, Swargate, Hadapsar, and Kharadi. The city is also in the process of developing an international-class airport. Given this backdrop, Tilekar stressed that the rapidly growing Kondhwa-Yevlewadi belt, which houses lakhs of residents, urgently requires metro connectivity to reduce traffic congestion and improve commute efficiency.

“Shivajinagar to Yevlewadi-Kondhwa metro must be approved and work on the Katraj to Hadapsar metro corridor should begin without further delay,” Tilekar urged.

Demand for Sambhaji Maharaj Memorial at Dharmaveer Gad
Paying tribute to Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Tilekar also demanded the construction of a grand memorial at Dharmaveergad in Ahilyanagar (earlier Ahmednagar) district, highlighting the historical and cultural importance of the Maratha king’s sacrifice and valor.

“Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy deserves a lasting tribute—just like the memorial at Sangameshwar,” Tilekar said, adding that the proposed site would serve as an educational and inspirational landmark for future generations.

Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar responded positively to the proposal and assured that the demand would be taken into serious consideration.

Mahajyoti Center in Pune, Memorial for Ahilyadevi and Savitribai
Pointing to the growing number of competitive exam aspirants in Pune, Tilekar also called for the establishment of a Mahajyoti Center to support students from across Maharashtra. He proposed building the center on government land along the Katraj-Kondhwa Road.

In addition, he suggested a joint memorial for Ahilyadevi Holkar and Savitribai Phule, honouring their contributions to education and social reform.

Expand Hadapsar-Yavat Flyover to Ease Solapur Highway Congestion
Addressing Pune’s worsening traffic woes, Tilekar applauded the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation’s (MSIDC) ₹6,500 crore tender for a four-lane road along the Solapur highway after nearly 40 years. He proposed extending the planned 18-kilometer Hadapsar-Yavat flyover by 2 km so that it begins from Bhairoba Nala instead.

“Extending the flyover to Bhairoba Nala will significantly decongest traffic on Solapur Road,” Tilekar said, while also demanding funds for the proposed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj playground in the same area.

Rename Mohammadwadi to Mahadevwadi
Tilekar also raised the issue of renaming Mohammadwadi village to Mahadevwadi, stating that the proposal had unanimous support from villagers since 1995. However, after the village was incorporated into the Municipal Corporation in 1997, the name change process stalled.
“The people of the village feel ignored. The state government must act on this long-pending demand,” he said.
