Strict Action Against Unauthorized Vendors at Pune Railway Stations: Over 1,300 Cases Registered in 40 Days

Pune, 15th June 2025: The Central Railway’s Pune Division has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized hawkers and vendors operating on railway premises. Acting under the directives of Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Kumar Verma and spearheaded by Priyanka Sharma, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF Pune, and Anil Kumar Pathak, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, a joint enforcement drive was launched in May and continued through June 10.

As part of this ongoing initiative, teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Commercial Department have been conducting regular inspections and booking violators under Section 144 of the Indian Railways Act, which prohibits unauthorized vending of goods and food on railway premises.

📊 Action Taken:

  • May 2025:
    • RPF registered 706 cases, collecting fines of ₹2,88,670
    • Commercial Department booked 195 cases, recovering ₹39,250
  • June 1 to 10, 2025:
    • RPF filed 282 cases, fines totaling ₹96,020
    • Commercial Department registered 131 cases, penalties amounting to ₹38,600

A total of 1,314 cases were booked in just over a month, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.

Ongoing Vigilance for Passenger Safety

The Pune Division emphasized that the drive is part of its larger goal to ensure passenger safety, hygiene, and security at railway stations and on trains. Officials reiterated that unauthorized vending is not only illegal but also a health and safety hazard.

Authorities have appealed to passengers to cooperate by reporting unauthorized sellers and refrain from purchasing any food or goods from them. Violators found vending without official licenses will face legal action, including fines and removal from railway premises.
