Student Detained For Threatening Bomb Attack At Maha Kumbh Mela; Investigation Reveals Plot To Implicate Friend
Prayagraj, 6th January 2025: The 11th-grade student who threatened to bomb the Maha Kumbh Mela was interrogated extensively by officials from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and other security agencies. During the investigation, it was revealed that the student made the bomb threat as part of a scheme to frame his friend, Nassar Pathan. The accused used a SIM card from the mobile phone of his friend’s mother, a neighbor, to carry out the threat.
The student, a resident of Purnia, Bihar, was arrested on Saturday (4th January), and brought to Prayagraj for questioning. Authorities took immediate action after a screenshot of a threatening post went viral on social media on 31st December. The post, made through an Instagram account named Nassar Katkar Mian, made derogatory comments about Hindus and included a bomb threat targeting the Maha Kumbh Mela.
Upon receiving the report, Kotwali Inspector Devendra Kumar Sharma initiated an FIR, and the case was handed over to Inspector Akhilesh Maurya at the Cyber Police Station. Investigations using IP address tracing and other technical methods led police to the accused, who was then arrested in Purnia.
SSP Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed that the accused is a minor and has been sent to a remand home for further proceedings. The investigation is ongoing.
