Mumbai, 30 March, 2016: Fresh from his triumph as the winner of the International Woolmark Award for men’s wear, Suket Dhir was felicitated at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 at a special show.

The first Indian to win the International Woolmark Prize for men’s wear in Florence at a special event by Pitti Uomo in January 2016; the designer’s innovative and creative use of ombré hand tied and dyed yarn for ikat with the gorgeous traditional Kasui hand embroidery was a grand mélange of trans-seasonal fashion with an international flavour. Weaving wool into a silk-like yarn, the six men’s wear creations unanimously enchanted the global line-up of judges.

Working around layering with Bundis, wide pants, unstructured jackets with some mysterious ikat lining the garments, were turned into an ideal summer collection specially developed with light weight wool using handlooms by weavers in Telangana and West Bengal.

Long kurta shirts were seen with comfy jackets, while palazzos gave a hint of playful styling. Beautifully hand finished, the discreet block print lining for jackets apparently thrilled the judges as the models strutted down the ramp at the contest. Giving a relaxed sporty edge to the collection, Suket worked around shades of blue, brown, sun yellow, black and white.

Suket Dhir was felicitated by the IMG Reliance team for bringing pride to the nation by winning the prestigious Wool Mark award in Florence. The presentation was commenced by Suket’s mentor Asha Baxi who was also his faculty at NIFT. She spoke about his journey to success as she has witnessed it closer than the others and she also shared her fond memories of Dhir’s college days. The designer’s first retail collection was exhibited by Good Earth, whose chairperson Mrs Anita Lal cherished her professional experience with the talented man and his genius abilities in particular. Ekta Rajani, the fashion editor of Grazia took a nostalgic trip and spoke about her initial days with Suket and how he managed to blow her away with his detailed technicalities and pure passion for his craft.

The felicitation ended with a power point presentation that showcased his journey in the competition and the last leg of the ceremony involved the display of his innovative master pieces. For relaxed award winning men’s wear, Suket Dhir’s collection was a true ‘Make in India’ line with definite international touches.
