Supreme Court To Hear Petitions On Same-Sex Marriages On March 13

New Delhi, 11th March 2023: On Monday (March 13), the Supreme Court is due to hear a number of petitions for legal recognition of same-sex marriages.

The appeals are scheduled for consideration before a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala, according to the cause list posted on the top court’s website on Monday.

On January 6, the Supreme Court gathered and forwarded to itself all such applications that were pending before various high courts, including the Delhi High Court.

It had stated that the petitioners’ attorney, Arundhati Katju, and the Center’s legal representative should work together to compile all written submissions, supporting documentation, and legal precedents that will be used during the hearing.

In its order from January 6th, the vendor has said, “The parties shall exchange digital copies of the compilations and make them available to the court. Include the petition, any related petitions, and any cases that have been transferred on March 13, 2023 for instructions.”

The counsel for several petitioners had informed the bench that they wanted the Supreme Court to take up all of the cases so it could make a final decision on the matter and that the Centre could submit its reply in the Supreme Court.

On January 3, the court announced that it will hear arguments for transferring petitions for same-sex marriage recognition that were pending before the high courts on January 6.
