Pune, September 5, 2020:Two men on a moped allegedly stabbed a young man to death with a sharp weapon at Swargate bus stand on Thursday, as he resisted to give his mobile phone and wallet to robbers.

The deceased has been identified as Nagesh Dagdu Gund (37), a resident of Karul, Osamanabad. His friend Kamlakar Sharnu Ghodke (29), a resident of Kothrud, has lodged an FIR with Swargate police station.

According to police officials, Gund and Ghodke are private drivers and close friends. Gund had gone to his hometown during the lockdown period but was returning on a Thursday night. He had got a job for driving from Bavdhan to Nashik which was scheduled on Friday. When Gund reached Pune, he called Ghodke at 11:15 pm and asked him to pick him up from the Swargate bus stand.

However, when Ghodke reached the bus stand he saw Gund’s bags on the chair but Gund was nowhere to be seen. When Ghodke tried calling on his phone, the call was picked up and immediately disconnected. So he tried calling again, but the phone was switched off.

Ghodke started to look for his friend, but there was no response. So he started turning around towards his bike when he heard Gund’s voice. As he walked towards his voice, he saw Gund lying in a pool of blood. “Two men on Activa were snatching my mobile and money from my pocket. When I resisted, one of them hit me with a sharp object and stole my mobile phone and money”, explained Gund to his friend.

Ghodke immediately informed the Swargate police station which called an ambulance and rushed Gund to Sassoon Hospital for treatment. However, he did not survive and died during the treatment over there.

Swargate police station and Crime Branch sleuths are investigating the case.

A few days ago, a retired assistant police inspector was also attacked by robbers in the same area.
