Symbiosis provides free medical aid to warkaris

The inaugural ceremony of the mobile medical units was done by Commissioner- PMC, Mr Kunal Kumar, today at Vishwabhavan, Symbiosis. Each year, Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) and Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) in association with Mrs. Sheela Raj Salve Memorial Trust, arrange four mobile medical units during palkhi procession of Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj offer free medical services by emergency medical practitioners to warkaris in the palkhi.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony Padma Bhushan Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, President & Founder, Symbiosis; Mrs. S. S. Mujumdar Hon. Director, AMM Symbiosis; Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director, Symbiosis; Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean, Faculty of Health & Biomedical Sciences, Symbiosis and Mr. Avinash Salve, Ex-Corporator PMC graced the occasion.

Mr. Avinash Salve, Ex-Corporator PMC, welcomed and thanked the dignitaries present on the occasion. He appreciated the efforts put in by Symbiosis and Salve Foundation for the warkaris.

Padma Bhushan Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, President & Founder, Symbiosis, while addressing the gathering mentioned, “Since the last 17 years this effort undertaken jointly by Symbiosis and Salve Foundation has proven fruitful. Each year, more than 1000 warkaris have benefited through the provision of free medical aid.”

Commissioner- PMC, Mr Kunal Kumar praised the efforts put in of providing medical services to Pandharpur warkaris.

Last year the total numbers of warkaris served were over 40,000 wherein treatment was given for various ailments like acute gastro enteritis, fever, acute respiratory tract infection, different kinds of minor injuries, aches / pains etc.

Standing true to the saying, ‘Leader by example’, on 1st July 2016, Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar along with the teaching & non-teaching staff members of Faculty of Health & Biomedical Sciences will join the walk with the warkaris on a stretch of nearly 20 kilometers.
