Symbiosis Skills University Pune offers upto 60 % concession to meritorious students from EWS category

Pune, July 26, 2019 : Symbiosis Skills & Open University (SSOU) is Maharashtra’s first Skill Development University located at Kiwale adjoining Mumbai-Pune expressway. SSOU offers B.Tech in Automobile, Mechatronics, Construction Engineering, BBA in Retail, Ports, and Logistics Management, B.Sc. in Beauty and Wellness, B.Sc. in Data Science & Architecture.

For the first time Symbiosis Skills & Open University, Pune offers Special Fee Concession Scheme to deserving students from economically backward sections to its flagship programs in Engineering and Management, against the available vacant seats.

“Symbiosis Skills & Open University was established with the objective of providing skill based education, which will make the youth of our country industry ready. This special fee concession scheme will provide opportunity for those deserving students who are today deprived of quality education due to their financial condition, to acquire skills & pursue their dream jobs” said Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro-Chancellor, Symbiosis Skills & Open University.

With a fee concession of upto 60%, this scheme opens doors for students from rural areas to obtain degrees from Symbiosis at affordable fees. Dr Swati added that this is a social movement in education which Symbiosis has embarked upon at a time when education has become a business for the rich. This noble initiative will go a long way in providing education to those who are deprived of opportunities.

Dr. Swati informed that their engineering (B.Tech) programs which are having fees Rs 2,45,000 per annum are being offered for 1,10,000/- & Management (BBA) programs which are having fees of Rs. 2,35,000/- per annum are being offered for 1,00,000/- to EBC students under this scheme. Girls are being given an additional concession of Rs. 10,000/- for these programs in order to promote girl education. The university also providing special fee concession for hostel & mess. These admissions are only against vacant seats in various programs of the university for academic year 2019-20.

Symbiosis Skills& Open University has taken many such initiatives to reach out to the underprivileged and provide educational opportunities. SSOU has collaborated with Fiat India Ltd. to provide Diploma in Manufacturing to underprivileged girls from rural areas who are 10 th pass, free of cost. SSOU Symbiosis &  Fiat is jointly training the student and providing job opportunities at the end of the 2-year program. Similarly, Symbiosis has partnered with
SKF India to provide 2-wheeeler &  4-wheeler mechanic courses to school drop-outs from rural areas, free of cost.
Dr. Swati explained that these social initiatives will not only spread education in the rural youth but more importantly develop skills which will help them to become employable or start their own business. She said that there a need for skilling our youth as the maximum unemployment is in the educated students. On one hand the industry requires a large pool of skilled manpower while we have thousands of unemployed students. In order to tackle this problem, Symbiosis Skills University is providing skill based courses at all levels from certificate to diploma &  degree in line with industry requirements. The objective of these courses is to enable students to become job ready or become self-employed.

Dr. Swati explained that the unique feature of this University is that we have opened our doors to students of all age groups &  socio-economic backgrounds. The University offer skill based courses to even 8 th std pass students as well as graduates. She added that today hundreds of students are benefitting from these skill based courses.
Symbiosis Skills and Open University (SSOU) in Pune is spread across state of the art 15 acres campus in Kiwale, opposite Gahunje Cricket Stadium, adjoining Pune-Mumbai expressway.

The university has partnered with top companies to prepare curriculum, train students and most importantly provide internships every year. Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro Chancellor informed that the university has created centres of excellence and learning factories where specialized skill training equipment from Germany have been installed to train students. The students spend more than 70% of their learning on practicing by hand in various specialized labs and centres of excellence established on the university campus. Dr. Swati added that the students are trained on specialised equipment helping them to understand what they are expected to do when they join place of employment. She further explained that alongwith with industry skills we also prepare students on life coping skills, communication skills, soft skills, interviewing skills etc. for their holistic development. The unique feature of
the programs is learning by doing and hence the university also provides yearly internships to all its students so that they are completely job ready upon completing the program.

Today, all students have got internships in various companies and industry has welcomed this initiative  wholeheartedly. The campus also provides hostels, mess, canteen, sports facility, library etc. Top companies like SKF, Fiat, VW, Enrich, Daikin, ICICI, Shoppers Stop etc. have partnered with SSOU besides many sector skill councils including logistics, beauty wellness and domestic workers sector skill council.

SSOU provides 4 year full time BTech in Automobile Engineering, BTech in Mechatronics Engineering and BTech in Construction and Infrastructure management, 3 year full time BBA in Retail management, BBA in Ports and Terminals management and BBA in logistics and Supply chain management, 5 year full time BArch, 3 year full time BSC in Beauty and wellness.

For the first time in Pune SSOU has launched a 3 year full time BSc in Data Science which is the need of the hour. SSOU has also started special part-time programs for working professionals, which will be conducted on campus namely 1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Data Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics.
