Symbolic Fast By Pune’s Muslim Community Supports Maratha Reservation Demand
Kondhwa, 31st October 2023: In a show of solidarity for the demand for reservation rights for the Maratha community in Pune, Manoj Jarange-Patil has been on a hunger strike for the past six days. The agitations for Maratha community reservation have also spread to Beed, Hingoli, and Parbhani in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. The lack of a definitive response from the state government has prompted citizens from various backgrounds to join the cause, including members of the Muslim community in Pune.
During this symbolic fast, the Pune Muslim community came out in large numbers to support the Maratha reservation movement at Narveer Tanaji Malusare Chowk in Kondhwa. The gathering echoed with slogans, with voices chanting, “One Marath, lakh Marathas, reservation is our right.”
Haji Gafoor Pathan, ex-corporator, highlighted the urgency of the matter, stating that Manoj Jarange-Patil’s hunger strike has been ongoing for six days without any concrete action from the state government. In response, members of the Muslim community in Pune are now participating in a symbolic fast to demand reservation for the Maratha community. Gafoor Pathan cautioned that unless a swift decision is taken, the movement may intensify shortly.
Haji Gafoor Pathan, the founder of the Muslim Foundation, spearheaded the symbolic fast, which drew support from a diverse range of individuals from the Muslim community in Pune.
