Tamil Nadu Thief Captured in Bengaluru After Stealing from Parked Cars in Pune

Pune, 15th October 2024: Pune Police have arrested a thief who used to steal items by breaking the windows of parked cars. The thief had two accomplices, both of whom have absconded. The arrest took place in Bengaluru, and the thief is from Tamil Nadu. He has been linked to 11 cases. Police have recovered two laptops and other items worth Rs 1.50 lakh from him. This operation was conducted by the Detection Branch (DB) of Swargate Police Station.
The arrested individual has been identified as Suresh Kumar Pandurangan Serwai, 50, a resident of Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. A case has been registered against him and his two accomplices under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 303 (2) for theft and 324 (4) for mischief.
According to police reports, a Fortuner car was broken into while it was locked and parked under the jurisdiction of Swargate Police Station. From there, the thieves stole a MacBook worth Rs 1 Lakh and AirPods. A case was registered against the unknown thieves, and the DB of Swargate Police Station began investigating the matter. When they traced the location of the MacBook, it was found in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Several officials, including Assistant Police Inspector Changdev Sajgane, travelled to Bengaluru. The team, in collaboration with Bengaluru Police, arrested Serwai. They recovered a MacBook and a Dell laptop worth ₹1,50,000 from him. Two accomplices with him managed to escape. A total of 11 theft cases have been solved, with five registered at Swargate Police Station, two at Khadak Police Station, two at Chandan Nagar Police Station, and one each at Deccan and Yerawada Police Stations.
The arrested individual, Serwai, has a history of crime, with one case registered at Dharavi Police Station and two at Kurla Railway Police Station, all concerning theft. Another accused, identified as Senthil Kumar Mahalingan, also has a theft case registered at Kurla Railway Police Station.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Praveen Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Smartana Patil, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Swargate Division) Rahul Aware. The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Yuvraj Nandre, included Assistant Police Inspector Changdev Sajgane, Police Sub Inspector Ravindra Kaspate, and Police Constables Bhandurge, Tanpure, Lahigude, Ghule, Shaikh, Pawar, Chavan, Tonpe, Khendad, Tonpe, Shinde, and Dudhe.
