Tata Power organizes community development program for women at Male village, Pune

Pune, 12th April 2017: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always adopted a focused approach towards women empowerment by implementing various multi-dimensional development programs for them. In line with this commitment, Tata Power organized a community development program for the women and young girls of Male village of Mulshi lake area of Pune district. The program organized by Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) in association with Pratham Shikshan Mandal, BVDU Social Sciences Centre and Chaitanya foundation was attended by 700 women and young girls from 52 villages of Mulshi lake area.

The objective of the program was to felicitate women in the village and provide them with a platform to share their experiences of bringing about a positive change in the communities. Among the invitees was Kum. Vaibhavi Bhoite of BVDU Social Sciences Centre who informed the audience about the Anemia Intervention being conducted in 13 villages of Vandre and Pomgaon gram panchayats by Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) and 226 women and adolescent girls were covered. As a result 17% anemia reduction took place from Pre and post intervention from these villages.  Mrs. Malti Datir, Head Mistress of Senapati Bapat Vidyalaya and Ms Lata Sonawane, Social Activist talked about women’s freedom, gender equality and the importance of women empowerment. Four young girls addressed the audience on the benefits of Life Skill Education Program introduced in the school, and how it has had a positive impact on their lives. The session also included two skits by school students on female feticide and anti-dowry.

Speaking on the success of the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO & ED (Operations), Tata Power said, “Tata Power has been relentlessly working towards the development of the local communities in and around its project areas. The company firmly believes that women are central to the social capital of India, and their development is synonymous with India’s development. The objective of this program was to encourage women and instill confidence in them to standup for their rights. We are happy with the participation the program has received from the women of Male village. I would like to thank all the dignitaries for attending the program and making it a success”.

The program was graced by the presence of Mrs. Anjali Wazir, Head – Community Relations, Tata Power Company Ltd. along with other dignitaries from panchayat, BVDU Social Sciences Centre and educational institutions.
