Pune, 1st February 2024: In a revolutionary move, Tata Motors is set to steal the spotlight at the upcoming Bharat Mobility show by unveiling the Nexon iCNG, India’s first-ever turbo petrol CNG car. This groundbreaking model combines the power of a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with an innovative CNG setup, pushing the boundaries of sustainable mobility.

While specific details about the Nexon iCNG’s specifications remain under wraps, Tata promises a seamless integration of their famed twin-cylinder technology. One remarkable feature is the spilt cylinder design, boasting a combined 60 litres of CNG storage and still allowing for a commendable 230 litres of usable boot space. The spare wheel cleverly finds its place beneath the boot, a design element already seen in Tata’s Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz CNG models.

Standout attributes of the Nexon iCNG include a single ECU, direct start in CNG mode, flat boot space, and an automatic fuel-switching mechanism. Tata’s commitment to innovation is evident in the concept’s design, sparking speculation about a potential production version in the pipeline.

While currently labeled as a concept, the Nexon iCNG appears production-ready in images released by Tata Motors. Industry insiders suggest that Tata’s strategy involves introducing CNG in segments where diesel could face discontinuation, positioning the Nexon iCNG as a potential solution for future sustainable mobility.
