Telegram Rolls Out Exciting Features In First Update of 2025
New Delhi, 7th January 2025: Telegram has launched its first major update of 2025, bringing a host of new features aimed at enhancing user experience. These include collectible upgrades for received gifts, an in-app QR code scanner, service message reactions, emojis in folder names, and advanced message search filters.
In a detailed blog post, Telegram explained that this update, initially planned as the 17th major release of 2024. Dainik Jagran quoted stating it was delayed due to “lack of attention from Apple’s review team.”
One of the standout features is the ability to convert received gifts into collectibles. These collectibles, enhanced with unique appearances such as background colors, icons, and custom designs by Telegram artists, can be transferred to other users or auctioned on NFT marketplaces. This ensures every collectible is distinct and personal to its owner.
Additionally, service messages—such as notifications about someone joining a group or sending a gift—now support emoji reactions, making interactions more engaging. The app also introduces advanced search filters, making it easier to locate specific messages across private chats, groups, and channels.
Another notable update is the introduction of third-party verification icons. Official third-party services can assign additional verification badges to user accounts or chats to improve transparency. However, Telegram clarified that these are distinct from the verified checkmarks it provides to public figures and organizations.
The update also enhances Telegram’s in-app camera, enabling default QR code scanning on both Android and iOS. This allows users to open links directly in their browser without switching apps. Furthermore, premium users can now add custom emojis to folder names, enabling a more personalized and expressive organization of chats.
