The backlog of vacancies for the disabled in Central Government Organisations and Maharashtra Government should be filled soon – Ramdas Athawale

Mumbai, May 6  2017 : The backlog of vacancies for the disabled in Central Public Sector Organizations and Mahrashtra  Government should be filled as soon as possible. This was stated by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas  Athawale at a press conference in Mumbai today.  He was addressing the media after a meeting with officials of Central Government Orgainsations and Maharashtra Government to take stock of the backlog of vacancies for the disabled. The minister warned that strict action would be taken if the backlog of vacancies is not filled.

During the meeting officials from Railways, Air India, JNPT, BPT, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Government were present .

The Minister said that reservation for the disabled has been increased to 4 % from 3%.

Giving the figures for the backlog of vacancies in various organizations the Minister stated that there are  113  vacancies in Railways, 405 vacancies in AIR India, 2573 vacancies in Maharahstra State Government, 1750 vacancies in MCGM,  122 vacancies  in Thane Municipal Corporation and 1 vacancy  in JNPT.

Mr. Ramdas Athawale told the media that he would press for the demand for reservation for SC and STs in the private sector.

The Minister informed that a budget of Rs. 762.85 crore was sanctioned to give aid to the disabled in 2017-18
