The first case of COVID detected in Pimpri Chinchwad police

Pimpri Chinchwad, May 15, 2020: A policeman with Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate has tested coronavirus positive. He is the first in the city police. His family members and close contacts are also being tested as per protocol.

Earlier, 15 police personnel of Pune city police were found COVID positive. However, Pimpri Chinchwad police force was far from it. Police officers were given immunity boosting pills and drinks along with various accessories to prevent COVID19. Not only that, but the suspected patients and all the police personnel above 50 years of age were also examined. But all of them had tested negative.

However, an inquiry on Thursday found that one policeman was infected with Corona. This has caused a stir in the city police force. An investigation is underway to find out who came in contact with the police. A few days back, a woman accused from Pimpri police station was taken to Satara jail, she was also a suspect of Covid19; thus all the police staff who came in contact with the accused were quarantined.

All over Maharashtra, more than a thousand police officers in the state, including those in Mumbai, Malegaon and Pune, have been infected with the coronavirus. Eight of them have even lost their lives fighting against the deadly virus.
