The Potter’s Paradise: Pune’s Pottery Fest Showcases Diverse Creations
Pune, 20th October 2023: “It is an absolutely enriching feeling of mixing our hands in the clay, and then witness an imaginary art piece transform into a tangible one,” expressed the potters from different parts of the country while asserting Pottery as a powerful medium to express themselves and their creativity.
Artists all across India have gathered for the Pune Potters’ Market 2023, curated and organized by Indranil Garai’s IGA Galleria, in association with Bhoomi Pottery. This mega Pottery treat has now begun with its third edition at The Pavillion, Senapati Bapat Road, Pune. Entry to this Pottery Fest is free and open to all. Art lovers can visit this ceramic art fiesta from 11 am to 9 pm till Sunday, 22nd October.
Compared to the previous editions, Pune Potters’ Market 2023 is offering a bigger palate of studio potters, who specialize in handmade ceramics. While interacting at that Fest, Shalan Dere, an artist from Mumbai said, “I’ve been doing pottery for 35 years now and I primarily do stoneware, tableware, and sculptures. I am happy that people like and appreciate pottery these days. In pottery, I create something that I like more than what people would like.”
“I was always inclined towards art. I’d once been to Prague, and I absolutely loved the ceramic work there. That is when I realized that I wanted to do pottery. It’s been 10 years since I started doing miniature pottery. Also, I am just a weekend artist, and I do pottery because of my passion and the intricacy of this art,” expressed Ajay Abhyankar, an artist from Mumbai.
Pralayantika Sharma from Bhopal said, “I started pottery as a part of my hobby, but I’ve fully dived into it as a profession now. I do cutwork and decoration of ceramic surfaces including paintings, engravings, and impressions. I’ve participated in the Pune Potters’ Market 2023 with the aim of spreading this art form to more and more people. I am happy that people are appreciating pottery nowadays.”
