Pune, 30th May 2024: Officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) announced on Wednesday that three coaches for the Metro Line 3, connecting Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar, have been dispatched from Chennai and are expected to arrive next week.

Over the next eight months, between 16 to 22 coaches will be gradually sent. The entire operation of Metro Line 3 is anticipated to commence in April 2025.

“Three coaches for Line 3 are en route from Chennai,” a PMRDA official stated. “After these are delivered next week, we will begin testing and conducting trial runs to ensure all safety and operational parameters are met.” The three coaches, built in Chennai, underwent thorough inspections before being dispatched.

The PMRDA plans to start public trial runs on the 23.5 km Line 3 route soon after the initial testing is completed.

Metro Line 3, a significant project spanning 23.5 km, includes 23 stations such as Hinjewadi, Wipro Chowk, Shivaji Chowk, Wakad Flyover, Balewadi Stadium, Vidyapeeth Chowk, AIR Kendra, and Shivajinagar Court. The new route aims to provide efficient transportation options for commuters.

This project, undertaken by PMRDA under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, involves a special purpose vehicle formed by the Tata Group and Siemens—Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited—to execute the project.
