Pune, June 21, 2020: The verified Facebook page of Chinese micro video-sharing app TikTok wrongly shows the map of India by including parts of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in Pakistan and parts of Union Territory of Ladakh in China. The map has been shown as one of the two profile photos.

The map was posted on April 21, 2017. In the comments section, it can be seen that many people took objection to the map but TikTok neither removed the map nor posted the correct map. When Punekarnews.in learnt about it, a query was sent to TikTok. The reply is awaited. This report will be updated after getting an official statement of TikTok.

As per the Criminal Law Amendment (Amending) Act, 1990 incorrect depiction of the International Boundaries of India is a cognizable offence. “Whoever publishes a map of India, which is not in conformity with the maps of India as published by the Survey of India, shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both”, the law states.
