Tlanding Wahlang and Anjali Saraogi win the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon 2019

Kolkata, 4rd February, 2019: Over 15,000 runners took to the streets of the City of Joy to participate in the 3rd edition of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon on Sunday, 3rd February, 2019. In order to motivate and encourage the runners, cricketing legend and Brand Ambassador of IDBI Federal Life Insurance, Sachin Tendulkar flagged off all the races from the iconic Salt Lake Stadium.

In the men’s full marathon category, Tlanding Wahlang emerged as the winner of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon 2019 with a timing of 02:35:42, while Surat Raj Subba managed to secure second position with a timing of 02:40:22, followed by Fulningstar Nonglang in the third position with a timing of 02:41:58.

In the women’s full marathon category, Anjali Saraogi won the title by completing the race in 03:16:54, followed by Samiksha Rai who achieved a second place finish with a timing of 04:04:40 and Rashmi Somani who came in third with a timing of 04:15:24. Anjali Saraogi has won the Women’s Full Marathon for the second consecutive year and bettered her timing by close to 15 minutes.

The Half Marathon in the men’s category was won by Mukesh Singh Bhandari who finished in 01:08:50.16, while Deepak Singh Rawat and Batsrang A Sangma completed the race in 01:08:50.74 and 01:09:49 respectively. In the women’s category, Jyoti Singh emerged as the winner with a timing of 01:23:31, while Dateibankynmaw Marwei crossed the finish line in second position with a timing of 01:39:08 followed by Tshering Lamu Bhutia, in 01:45:48.

Shubhashis Ghosh, with a rare heart ailment and visually impaired runner, Mohammed Asif Iqbal successfully completed the Timed 10K run. In the Half Marathon category, 86-year-old Bylahalli Janardan also completed his race easily. Around 2,000 personnel from the police and defense forces also ran in different categories.

This year in association with the Medical Partner, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals Kolkata, 50 cancer survivors ran for 500 meters and this special race was flagged off by Sachin Tendulkar. Along with him, other runners and family members were cheering and motivating these determined survivors to #KeepMoving. While on the other side we saw runners from the corporate sector, amateur runners and professional runners competing against each other.

Over 15,000 runners participated in the IDBI Federal Kolkata Full Marathon 2019, which offered a total prize money of Rs 6 lakhs. The winners were felicitated by Sachin Tendulkar, Brand Ambassador of IDBI Federal Life Insurance.

Taking to the starting line at 4:30am, the Full Marathoners set off along the picturesque route which was followed by the commencement of the Half Marathon race at 6:00 am. The Timed 10K race was flagged off at 7:30 am and the most awaited 5K Fun Run started at 8:15am.
