Top teams to play at Kattakkar Trophy All India ‘Water Polo’ Tournament from13th December
Pune, December 11, 2023 – Big Time Waterpolo will return to city after Decades as Deccan Gymkhana Will host the All India club level competition at the historic Tilak Lake of Deccan Gymkhana from 13th to 17th December. Under the auspices of the Swimming Federation of India.
The tournament will be named Kattakkar Karandak (Trophy) and sponsored by Mr. Hemant Katkakar, Member of Deccan Gymkhana and Head of Katkakar Industries Group and an accomplished international swimmer himself .
Amit Golwalkar, Secretary of Tilak Lake, Jai Apte, Secretary of Pune Amateur Swimming Association and Smt. Nita Talvalikar Coordinator of the event stated in a release
Top teams Central Railway, Western Railway, South Eastern Railway, Navy, Air Force, Amravati, Rasaani Raigad, Silver Shine Club of Madhya Pradesh, Khiderpur Club of Kolkata along with teams from Bengaluru, Kerala, Rajkot and hosts Deccan Gymkhana have confirmed their participation in this competition.
The Kattakkar Trophy competitions will be played in a league format and sports fans will get a chance to watch many international players play for the first time in Pune. Competitions will start from 8 am.
Water polo an Olympic recognized sport is played in many places in India including Pune. The game has been played at the Deccan Gymkhana since the sixties.
Pune was considered as the Capital Of Water polo in India and produced many international players
Mr Golvalkar added that This year the Swimming Federation of India has chosen Deccan Gymkhana to host World Aquatics (formerly FINA) program ‘Play with the Ball’ for girls and boys below 12 years of age to promote water polo
