TREE PLANTATION DRIVE AT NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY
National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla covers an area of around 7000 acres, a major portion of which has dense vegetation making it ideal for Military Training. This green cover not only provides habitat to wild life but also facilitates fresh and pollution free environment. In order to ensure desired afforestation for naturally falling trees, a tree plantation drive was organised on 27 July 2018. Besides contributing towards preservation and development of flora and fauna at NDA, this initiative is also aimed at initiating the cadets and promoting the sense of responsibility towards nature. The entire NDA community comprising officers, Men, Cadets, Civilian employees and families participated and planted 5000 saplings. The Army Public School, Army Pre Primary School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Aruna Chaudhary Mahadhyamik Vidyalaya located in the NDA Campus also participated in this mass tree plantation drive (Vanmahotsav).
A special drive was also undertaken to clear the campus of all non biodegradable waste. Air Marshal and Mrs IP Vipin, led the plantation drive by planting saplings at Hut of Remembrance. The Commandant NDA commended the efforts put in by all for having participated in such large numbers in this onerous drive and termed it as the best gift to the next generation. He emphasised that flora and fauna is an integral part of our life and it is imperative for every one of us to contribute in maintaining ecological balance. He also directed the Estate section of NDA that these saplings be taken care of to ensure their survivability.
