New Delhi, 16 March 2021: Twitter users were surprised to learn recently that the microblogging platform automatically suspends the accounts of people tweeting the word “MEMPHIS.” Dozens of Twitter users reported that their accounts had been suspended or limited. It was reported that those who tweeted “Memphis” received a message from Twitter stating that their account has been banned from Twitter for 12 hours.

A screenshot read, “You cannot publish or post personal information of other people without the permission of anyone.”

Following this complaint on Sunday, Twitter said that a bug had caused the problem, which has now been fixed. “Many accounts that wrote the word ‘Memphis’ were temporarily restricted due to the bug,” Twitter said, fixing the bug and restarting the accounts.

Several media outlets reported that the issue was first noticed by users trying to tweet about Dutch football player Memphis Depe. On Sunday, French football club Olympique Leonis shared a photo of the athlete and Had asked, “Hey, @Twitter – can we talk about it now?” Twitter has not given any information about this bug and how many people’s accounts have been affected.
