New Delhi, 5th June 2021: Instead of ending the tussle with social media giant Twitter for not following the new IT rules of the central government, it is increasing. While notices were being sent every day by the government regarding the new IT rule, in the meantime, Twitter made the blue ticks of many prominent leaders disappear.

The social media giant first removed the blue tick from the account of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, then action was also taken against the account of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. However, after the last stern warning from the Centre, the blue tick of Naidu’s account was already restored, and Mohan Bhagwat’s account has also been re-verified.

Twitter explained the reason: The microblogging website Twitter today unverified the accounts of some leaders including Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. However, it was later rectified by Twitter. “As per our verification policy, if the account becomes inactive, the Blue Verified batch may be removed,” Twitter said. An account is considered active if an account holder login at least once in 6 months.

Center’s last warning to Twitter: The central government has given a final warning to Twitter regarding the implementation of new digital rules. The government said that Twitter is being given a final notice to comply with the new IT rules.

If the rules are not followed, the exemption under Section 79 of the IT Act 2000 will be nullified and Twitter will have to be prepared for action under the IT Act and other penal provisions.

The Ministry said that these rules are effective from May 26, 2021, but in good faith, Twitter Inc. is given an opportunity to comply with the rules through a final notice.
