Two men caught at Pune airport with foreign currencies worth Rs 28 lakhs
Pune – The officers of customs at Pune international airport intercepted two passengers Mohan Patil and Sachin Machhindra Patil in the departure area who allegedly tried to smuggle out foreign currencies by Air India flight no. ix 212 on 28.02.2019. The personal search of the passenger and their baggages resulted in the recovery of foreign currencies of denominations 41,422/- in US dollars & 200/- in AED (worth Rs. 28 lakhs in inr).
The foreign currencies recovered from the above passengers were seized under the reasonable belief that the same was attempted to be smuggled outside india and hence liable for confiscation under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 read with FEMA 2000.
In the statement recorded under section 108 of the Customs Act, 1962, the passengers admitted the possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the said foreign currency under seizure. Further investigation is under progress.
