Two More Lanes Likely To Be Added On Pune-Mumbai Expressway To Ease Traffic Flow, MSRDC Sends Proposal To Center

Pune 5th August 2023: To deal with traffic jam issue on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, the state government has proposed to build one line each from both sides of the road. A proposal in this regard has been shared by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRDC) to the central government. This according to officials will help ease the traffic flow on the expressway.
Majority of the land needed for the expansion of the road has been already acquired while process to acquire land at remaining places will also be initiated once the proposal is approved. According to reports, a total of around Rs 4,500 Crore will be needed to complete the work and this will also include building of tunnels, flyovers on the expressway.
The commuters travelling on the expressway have come across heavy traffic jams lasting for hours on multiple occasions in the last few days. The highway police had implemented several trial initiatives to curb the traffic jams but there has been no major impact so far. Additionally, the minor landslides reported on the road in some incidents have also added to the problem due to monsoon.
According to reports, the officials have also proposed additional lanes on the old Pune-Mumbai Highway to curb the traffic jams. A total of 11 flyovers are also proposed to cover maximum black spots on the old highway.
