Somwar Peth, 6th July 2026: A major tragedy was averted on Monday evening after a two-storey wada collapsed in Dhangar Galli in Somwar Peth. The incident occurred near the Trishund Ganpati Temple at around 6:28 pm. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, as the building had already been vacated.

After receiving an emergency alert, a fire engine from the Central Fire Station was immediately dispatched to the spot. The rescue team, led by Station In-Charge Sachin Mandavkar, along with driver Omkar Sakhare and firefighters Ketan Bhoir, Ritesh Petkar, Paresh Jadhav, and Shubham Kadam, quickly secured the area.

Upon arrival, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the collapsed structure and confirmed that no residents or bystanders were trapped inside. As a precaution, the road adjacent to the collapsed wada was closed to prevent any further danger. The team also coordinated with the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) to disconnect the power supply, eliminating the risk of electrocution and ensuring the site was safe.

“Our priority was to ensure that no one was trapped inside the collapsed wada. After confirming the building was vacant, we immediately cordoned off the area and coordinated with the electricity department to disconnect the power supply, preventing any further danger,” said Sachin Mandavkar, Station In-Charge of the Central Fire Station.

The Pune Fire Brigade’s prompt response ensured the situation was brought under control without any loss of life, despite the collapse occurring in a densely populated part of the city. Authorities have urged residents to stay away from the affected area until structural safety assessments are completed.
