UBER PARTNERS WITH MAHINDRA GROUP’s NANHI KALI

Pune, 9 November, 2015: Uber, the on-demand technology platform that has transformed the way people move in cities, announced its partnership with Project Nanhi Kali to support the education of underprivileged girls through the launch of a multi city charitable initiative ‘Ride for a Cause’. Project Nanhi Kali is jointly managed by the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) and Naandi Foundation.

With two joyous occasions the same week, this Diwali and Children’s Day the campaign aims to celebrate the joy of giving by donating INR 10 for every ride taken in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Bangalore. The campaign will run from 7 November – 14 November.

Speaking about the partnership, Sheetal Mehta, Trustee & Executive Director, K.C. Mahindra Education Trust said, “Project Nanhi Kali today provides educational support to over 114,000 underprivileged girls in poor urban, remote rural and conflict afflicted tribal communities. We are grateful to Uber for supporting our cause of girl’s education through the ‘Ride for a Cause’ campaign. The campaign will help us provide education support to more Nanhi Kalis across India who will receive not only academic support but also material support in the form of school bags, uniforms, books, shoes and hygiene material.”

“We are very excited to collaborate with Nanhi Kali to help educate more and more girls. Educating girl child has tremendous multiplying benefits for not just the individual but also for the families, communities and societies, at large. We hope to do our bit in order to help bring quality education to as many girls as we can through this campaign.” said an Uber Spokesperson.

To raise awareness for Nanhi Kali, Uber will also launch a social media campaign ‪#‎RideForEducation‬ that will capture the stories of proud driver partners recounting how education and support has changed the lives of their daughters.

Project Nanhi Kali empowers more than 114,000 girls across rural, tribal and urban communities in ten states of India. The Nanhi Kali sponsorship provides these girls with study classes which enable them to achieve grade specific learning competencies as well as material support which includes a school uniform, school bag, books, shoes and hygiene material. By providing them with high-quality education support and resources the project enables the girls to go to school with dignity. It also mobilizes communities to create mindset and behavior change.
