Mumbai, 4th June 2022: Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav showed doubt on whether he will be able to play 100 Test matches or not but said that he will give his best to stay fit and play as many matches as possible. The feeling of playing a Test match for India is different, he expressed.
Indian cricket team Veteran fast bowler Umesh Yadav performed brilliantly in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, he took a total of 16 wickets in 12 matches. Umesh showed great excitement over playing as many Test matches as possible and doing better for Team India.
Umesh Yadav said, “It is very difficult to say whether I will continue to play for the next five years or not. I am just thinking of smaller goals with each passing year. Right now I am 33 years old and when I’m 36 years old, a lot will depend on my body and how it behaves to support the performance level required. If I continue to play without picking up injuries, my body will continue to perform and function well in the future. But as of now, as of now I am only thinking about playing good cricket, and focusing on playing as many matches as possible for my country.
Playing a total of 52 Test matches for India, Umesh has picked up 158 wickets. In the One Day Internationals, Umesh has picked a total of 106 wickets in 75 matches for team India. Umesh did not get as many chances in international T20s, but he has managed to get 9 wickets after playing 7 matches.
On the question of playing 100 Test matches, Umesh said that he wasn’t sure about the future but his effort in the present will be complete.
He said, “I am not sure whether I will be able to play 100 Test matches or not but I will try to play as many matches as possible. Playing Test matches for India is a different feeling. If you have played 70-80 Test matches for your country then it has a different impact. People feel that you have achieved something yet it motivates for further achievements in the career.”
