‘Underwater Domain Awareness Summer School’ starts off from city for Young India
Pune, June 25, 2018: Maritime Research Centre (MRC) in collaboration with Savitribai Phule Pune University, Goa University and Vijnana Bharati has organized a six weeks project based internship ‘Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) Summer School’. The internship supports the Safety And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) vision of the Government for ensuring Safe, Secure and Sustainable Growth in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The maritime push by the government as part of the SAGAR vision will provide massive opportunities for the young India, however the adequate human resource development will remain a big challenge. This exclusive six-week internship program is designed for under/post graduate students undergoing multi-disciplinary programs to bridge this HR gap, informed Dr(Cdr) Arnab Das, Director Maritime Research Center and convener of the UDA Summer School.
The participant will be able to take the work forward to their BTech/MTech projects. Acoustics and Geo-physics Mechanical Engineering, Communication and Signal Processing, law, basic science, strategic policy making, Marine Biodiversity are few topics which will be conducted in the Summer School Internship Program. On successful completion certificates will be awarded to the participants with special mention of research and industry exposure.
Students will also get the opportunity to interact with domain experts from marine area and related fields. There is a two weeks field visit to Goa planned as part of the internship where the participants will visit NIO, NCAOR, Marine Science Dept at Goa University, marine industries andalso take part in a short Research Cruise.
MRC which was founded in February 2017, under the agies of the IMF. IMF also has a special dedicated museum and library on Maritime. MRC can also help in providing infrastructure for research and data collection, tackle acoustic habitat degradation and huge entrepreneurship opportunities for young India.
