Unseasonably Warm Nights Predicted in Pune and Across Maharashtra
Pune, 13th February 2024: Moderate to high night temperatures are anticipated to persist in Maharashtra, including Pune, over the next week. Both day and night temperatures are running 1-2 degrees above normal.
Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather forecasting division at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune, mentioned, “Night temperatures are unlikely to decrease in the coming days, potentially extending until February 18 and beyond. Even the extended range forecast from IMD indicates that night temperatures, especially in Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, will be higher than usual.”
This sustained warmth is attributed to factors causing moisture incursion and resulting in high humidity. Kashyapi explained that the interaction of winds from the southern peninsula and opposing winds over central India has been causing isolated rainfall with thundery activity in parts of Vidarbha. A reduction in rain over the region is anticipated from Wednesday.
