US woman molested by cab driver in Delhi, case filed in Ahmednagar

In yet another case of sexual assault by cab driver in Delhi, a 20-year-old girl from the USA was molested on July 24 in Chittaranjan Park area in the capital.

The girl has come to India on a study tour. During their visit to Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, she confided in a professor about the incident. The professor took her immediately to the Ahmednagar district police. A case of molestation was registered cab driver Devraj Chauhan at Tofkhana police station under section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. Police have collected evidences from her and also her statement was video recorded.

Police officials, citing her statement, said that she arrived in New Delhi on July 21. She had booked cab service on the internet. The driver picked her from the hotel. She also visited various places in his cab. The incident took place on the night of July 24 in CR Park area of Delhi. When she tried to raise an alarm, he dropped her back to the hotel. The girl took up the matter with the cab company following which the company management and the driver apologized to her.

Meanwhile the girl has returned to Delhi, where the case was transferred from Ahmednagar.
