Vaishnavi Hagawane Case: Pune Court Grants Arrest Warrant for Husband and Mother-in-Law in JCB Machine Fraud Case

Pune, 2nd June 2025: The Vaishnavi Hagawane matter, which has been under intense scrutiny in Pune for several days, has taken a significant new turn. Authorities are set to arrest Vaishnavi’s husband, Shashank, and her mother-in-law, Lata, in yet another case, even as they remain in Yerawada Central Jail. The Mahalunge MIDC Police Station will soon take both into custody for their alleged involvement in a financial fraud related to the sale of a JCB machine.
The arrest is linked to accusations of cheating against Prashant Yelwande, a resident of Khed taluka. Yelwande filed a police complaint alleging that Shashank and Lata Hagawane duped him during the sale of a JCB machine. According to the complaint, the Hagawane mother and son duo gave false assurances during the transaction, leading to substantial financial loss for Yelwande. After a court hearing on the matter, the court granted permission for the arrest of Shashank and Lata Hagawane.
Prashant Yelwande’s grievance details that in March 2022, he entered into a deal with Lata Hagawane and Shashank Rajendra Hagawane to purchase a JCB machine valued at Rs 24 lakh. He initially paid Rs 5 lakh in cash and took possession of the machine, only to later discover that the JCB already had an outstanding bank loan of Rs 19 lakh with IndusInd Bank. Upon this revelation, both parties agreed to a compromise, with Yelwande agreeing to pay monthly installments of Rs 50,000. In accordance with this arrangement, Yelwande deposited a total of Rs 6.7 lakh into Lata Hagawane’s account.
However, Yelwande alleges that instead of using these funds to settle the bank debt, the Hagawane family used the money for their own purposes. Following these developments, the court has approved the arrest of the mother and son, who are already in Yerawada Jail. Police are now preparing to take both into custody in connection with this new case, marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing Hagawane family controversies.
