‘Vatsalabai Joshi’ award announced for Late Pt. Shrikant Deshpande
Pune, 6th December 2024: Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal’s Vatsalabai Joshi award for this year will be posthumously conferred upon to Late Pt. Shrikant Deshpande, grandson of Sawai Gandharva and senior disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. This was announced by Shrinivas Joshi, Executive President of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal today.
Since 2007 the Vatsalabai Joshi award is being presented to the artists for their outstanding contribution to the field of Indian Classical Music. The award consists of a cash prize of ₹51,000 and a citation. It will be presented during this year’s Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav which is being organized between December 18th and 22nd at the Sports Complex of Maharashtriya Mandal at Mukund Nagar, Pune.
Photo exhibition on a specific theme is an integral part of Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav. This year’s photo exhibition which is curated by renowned industrial photographer Sateesh Paknikar will be based on the Dance Performances that took place at Sawai over the years. Titled as ‘Nritya – Prabha’, it would contain photographs clicked by Sateesh Paknikar, Late Anil Deshpande and Late Sudhakar Joshi. The exhibition will also have a special section dedicated to Padmavibushan Dr Prabha Atre. It will be open to all those who come to attend Sawai for all 5 days of the festival.
The ticket sale of Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav will begin from Tuesday, December 10th, 2024. Tickets can be availed at Shirish Traders- opposite Kamla Nehru Park, Erandawane, Behere Ambewale – Shanipaar, Abhiruchi Foods – Sahakarnagar, Desai Bandhu Ambewale & Healthy Bagicha – Karvenagar and Grahak Peth – Tilak road.
