VETERANS DAY CELEBRATED AT BOMBAY ENGINEERING GROUP AND CENTRE, KIRKEE

Pune – The Army celebrated its Armed Forces Veterans Day on 14 January 2018 at Bombay Engineering Group & Centre, Kirkee (Khadki) with a large number of retired Armed Forces personnel from Pune and adjoining areas attending the event.

​It was decided to commemorate 14 January every year as Armed Forces Veterans Day as a mark of respect and recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE the first Commander in Chief of the Indian Army, who retired from service on 14 January 1963.

​On the occasion a wreath laying ceremony was conducted at Bombay Engineering Group & Centre War Memorial where wreaths were laid by Lieutenant General DR Soni, Vishist Seva Medal, ADC, and General Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Command along with senior most veterans from the three Services, settled in Pune. Officers from civil administration from Pune which included Agriculture & Banking department were also present at the occasion.

​During the rally, stalls were also set up by the Army to spread information and extend help in the field of job placements, pension and grievance redressal. A Medical Camp was also organised where a large number of medical specialists and medical facilities were made available to the veterans. Lunch was also served for all the veterans at the venue after the event.

​The event also felicitated Veer Naries and Disabled Veterans as the year is also observed as a year of the ‘Disabled Soldiers’.
