Dhayari, 7th May 2024: Voting for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections is underway today, including in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. A video of an elderly man expressing anger during voting at Dhayari’s Bandoji Khandoji Chavan High School in Pune has gone viral. The elderly man was furious as the lotus symbol did not appear on the EVM.

Dhayari, a part of Pune, falls within the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, where the contest is between Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar. Sunetra Pawar is contesting the elections from the NCP (Ajit Pawar), represented by the clock symbol. Supriya Sule is standing from NCP (Sharad Pawar), identified by the symbol of a man playing a trumpet (Tutari). There is no lotus symbol in Baramati due to the alliance between the BJP and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.

Traditional BJP voters are becoming increasingly frustrated, particularly in the focal constituency of Baramati. Here, a battle between sisters-in-law is unfolding. With different parties in the Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi alliances, voters are becoming confused.

One elderly man expressed his frustration, saying, “There is no flower symbol on the EVM. The lotus is missing. If there is no candidate with that symbol, what are we supposed to do? If there’s no lotus symbol, how can we cast our votes? We want to vote, but where is the lotus flower?”
