Viraj Joshi to be awarded with ‘Yuva Prashasti Puraskar’ by the Government of Karnataka

Pune, 27th July 2022:  Vocalist Viraj Joshi, grandson of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and son and disciple of Pt. Shrinivas Joshi has been chosen to receive the prestigious ‘Yuva Prashasti Puraskar’ by Government of Karnataka for his outstanding work in the field of music. Viraj will become the youngest recipient of this award. The award will be presented to Viraj on August 24 at Dharwad in Karnataka and will be in the form of a cash prize of Rs 25,000/- and memento. This award is given annually by the Government of Karnataka in the honour of vocalist Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru of Kirana Gharana to emerging artists in the age group of 18 to 25 who have contributed in the field of music.

Apart from this, senior vocalist Padmashri Pt. Madhup Mudgal, a disciple of Kumar Gandharva, will also be honoured on this occasion.

Viraj has so far performed in more than 100 musical concerts across India including the renowned Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai and Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal. He has done more than 25 shows in countries like the USA, UK and Australia. He has received a highly respected Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi fellowship and the ‘Rising Star’ award from the Rotary Club.  The M. S. Subbulakshmi fellowship was awarded to him at the hands of Devendra Phadnavis the then CM of the Maharashra.
