Viral Video: Job Seekers Swarm Pune Walk-in Drive Amidst Unemployment Woes

Hinjawadi, 22nd January 2024: A viral video capturing a massive crowd vying for job opening at a company walk-in drive in Hinjawadi, Pune, is underscoring the gravity of the unemployment situation.

The video portrayed the walk-in drive, featuring a substantial crowd armed with physical copies of their resumes. The accompanying text revealed the objective as “Role: Junior Developer. Gathering around 2900+ resumes.”

A noteworthy observation came from a user expressing disappointment with the scene despite technological advancements. They questioned the continued reliance on traditional methods and suggested leveraging online resume submissions and technologies like Zoom and Google Meet for interviews. Another user expressed incredulity, stating, “This situation is absurd. Where are we going?”

In the September quarter of 2023, the urban unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 years and older decreased to 6.6%, down from 7.2% the previous year. Gender-specific unemployment rates also exhibited positive trends. Among urban females aged 15 years and older, the unemployment rate dropped from 9.4% to 8.6% in July–September. Similarly, urban males experienced a decrease to six percent during July–September, down from 6.6% in the corresponding period the previous year.
