Handewadi, 2nd September 2026: The citizen-led movement launched by Voice of Handewadi in May 2026 over basic civic infrastructure issues is beginning to show tangible results, with improvements in electricity infrastructure and progress on several other pending works in the Handewadi and surrounding areas.

The movement was launched to highlight concerns related to essential civic services and infrastructure before the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). It received strong support from local residents, while MURWDF (Murf Foundation), Undri, also extended its support to the initiative.

According to Voice of Handewadi, the recent developments are the result of sustained follow-up, coordination and discussions with the concerned authorities, along with cooperation from public representatives.

Major Boost to Power Supply Infrastructure

A significant development for residents of Handewadi Road, Autade Handewadi, Undri and Mohammadwadi Road is the connection of the Nyati County Switching Station with the Punyadham Power Station through a 300-ampere HT cable.

Earlier, the electricity supply for the area was largely dependent on the Fursungi Power Station. Damage to power cables during road works or other infrastructure projects often resulted in prolonged power outages, leaving residents without electricity for several hours.

The new connection will enable a back-feeding arrangement from the Punyadham Power Station, allowing authorities to restore electricity supply more quickly during technical disruptions. Residents expect the move to significantly reduce the duration and frequency of prolonged power cuts in the area.

Road and Streetlight Works Gain Pace

Several other civic works have also gained momentum following the movement. Issues related to faulty streetlights and damaged roads have reportedly received attention, with repair and maintenance works being initiated in parts of the locality.

However, the water supply issue remains unresolved. The Pune Municipal Corporation had reportedly provided a written assurance that a new water supply pipeline would be laid within six months. Residents, however, say that work on the project has not yet commenced.

Adarsh Nagar Police Chowki Established Through Public Participation

Meanwhile, the Adarsh Nagar Police Chowki under the jurisdiction of Fursungi Police Station has also been started through public participation. The initiative was undertaken under the guidance of the Senior Police Inspector of Fursungi Police Station.

Voice of Handewadi played a role in facilitating coordination between residents and the police administration for the initiative.

‘Victory of Citizens’ Unity’

Speaking about the developments, Ashish Ingale of Voice of Handewadi said the progress achieved so far was the result of collective efforts by local residents.

“This is not just the success of Voice of Handewadi, but a victory of every resident who stood together for the development of our area. Our approach has always been to identify problems, engage constructively with the authorities and continuously follow up until solutions are delivered. While we are happy to see improvements in electricity infrastructure and other civic works, several important issues, particularly the water supply project, are still pending. Our efforts will continue until every basic civic concern of the residents is properly addressed,” Ingale said.

Voice of Handewadi has credited the developments to the unity and consistent efforts of citizens. While several civic issues remain pending, residents believe the progress made so far demonstrates how organised community participation and sustained engagement with authorities can help accelerate long-pending development works.
